Overview
"THE FORGOTTEN ARMY- AZAADI KE LIYE" is based on a true story of the Indian Soldiers who marched towards the Indian capital, with a warcry "Chalo Dilli" under the INA led by Subhash Chandra Bose, and is a must watch series for every Indian.
The story begins in 1996, when retired Colonel Sodhi(70) visits his sister Urmila & her family in Singapore. In an intervention, his nightmares of war of '42 returns to haunt him from which he was running. With the time old Sodhi and Amar(Urmila's grandson) begin to bond, and Sodhi accompanies him to Burma(Myanmar) to shoot a documentary on the students agitation against the Military Junta. The places visited by Sodhi in Singapore, reminds him of 'The Battle of Singapore' after which the fate of Indian Soldiers depended on Japanese Army. The soldiers transformed when Netaji gave them call to form Indian National Army. This was time when young Lieutenant Sodhi met Maya, a beautiful photographer.
Coming back to the present, in Burma Amar met his friend Rani and the company of two becomes three. In order to protect the group from the attack by Military Junta, old Sodhi kills two Junta soldiers. This incident runs parallel to the one in 1944, attack by British bombers on INA. But somehow they escaped and reached Imphal against all the odds.
Old Sodhi redeems himself by helping his young group crossing Burma safely to India & kept the promise he made to Maya, that he would return to Burma someday.
Overall the series is ‘Treasure of Historical Facts’ with five blood pumping episodes.
